Bloggers blogging about blogs and blogging...and ethos

There are many blogs dedicated to humor, which I think is a good thing. Who can't use more laughter?

Blogs of all categories often incorporate humor into their writing, but those writers who dedicate their blogs specifically to humor have certain techniques for creating their persona.

* Making a sarcastic or ironic comment about something commonplace aligns writers of blogs to us, because suddenly we recognize the funny things about life we didn't notice before. This translates into "good will toward the audience," because when we read, we get to share in that which the blog is laughing at. We are laughing at something together. Everyone wants to be in on a joke, just like when you see a group of people laughing all at once, and you are at your own table and wish you knew what was going on. Oh. I mean... so I've heard. That's never happened to me.
* Overstating the simple for a comedic effect.
* Using profanity. While this may not fall into the typical category of promoting "good moral character," a well-placed swear word works wonders for making people laugh. It adds to the sense of irritation and impatience that so many of these bloggers convey. Being irritated is funny, when someone can phrase it in a way that isn't simply complaining, but that points out something we have also found annoying. It goes back to the connection between people, even if there are computer screens and miles separating them.
